The Pastor's Ponderings
The Pastor’s Ponderings
You may have heard me say “I am a Valentine’s Day Grinch” before. It’s true, I admit it! I am not a big fan of Valentine’s Day. I have long thought the idea of having a day set aside to tell our loved ones that we love them was kind of silly. Shouldn’t we tell our loved ones we love them every day? Of course, we should; however, that doesn’t mean that we do. As I look at the state of the world around us, I am becoming more convinced that a day set aside to celebrate love may not be such a bad idea after all. I’m not talking about the cupid’s arrow, romantic dinners and candle light kind of love, but rather true, genuine love as described by Paul in his letter to the Corinthians. Love that is given and lived with patience, humility, self-control and an even temper. As I look at the problems of the world, I notice that if we met each obstacle with genuine love, the problems would all be solved. Can you imagine the change in the world if we were to an engage with each person we encounter with true, honest love? On February 14 this year, I am dedicating myself to living the day sharing love with all I meet, and I invite you to do the same. Let’s celebrate Valentine’s Day by celebrating true love, because indeed what the world needs now, indeed is love, sweet love!
